Virginia Strip Club Owner Sentenced For Tax Evasion
A Richmond, Virginia, strip club owner was recently sentenced to six years and six months in federal prison, after defrauding the Internal Revenue Service out of nearly $450,000.
Samuel Moore, 47, illegally operated a nightclub in Shockoe Bottom, a section of the city, and did not report the fraudulent earnings on his tax forms, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The venue, named Club Velvet, was raided in 2008 by government officials as Moore was suspected of evading IRS payments.
After the club was raided, the amount of income reported to the federal government increased, but prosecutors think it was still far below what was actually owed, the news source reported.
In addition to his sentence, Moore was ordered to pay $250,000 in fines. He was convicted in February, and Moore's team of lawyers plan to appeal the decision, the news source added. The reason for the possible appeal is that the federal government may have said he owed too much. The IRS could still levy fines against Moore, but that decision has not yet been made.
