California Woman Sentenced For Tax Evasion
A woman from Rio Vista, California, was recently sentenced to 30 months in prison for tax evasion equaling more than $700,000.
Beverly Harville, 50, pleaded guilty to the charges in March, according to The Reporter. She was in charge of payroll and administrative fees for an unnamed company, and from 2004 to 2008, Harville stole significant amounts of money from both the company and its partner organization. In total, she embezzled more than $780,000, and did not report any of it to the Internal Revenue Service.
She worked for the company for more than two decades, which is why she was given access to the funds, the news source reported. In addition to the company accounts, she also had access to the owners' personal bank accounts, and employee vacation funds.
In total, Harville owed the federal government more than $250,000, the news source added. She agreed to pay more than $1 million in restitution for her crimes, as it would cover both the federal and company losses caused by the five-year scheme.
